Mikumi National Park
Mikumi National Park, located in southern Tanzania, is a hidden gem offering a classic African safari experience just a few hours’ drive from Dar es Salaam. As part of the larger Selous ecosystem, Mikumi is home to a remarkable variety of wildlife including elephants, lions, giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, and the rare African wild dogs.
The open horizons and grassy plains of Mikumi resemble the Serengeti, making it ideal for game viewing. The Mkata floodplain is particularly popular, offering excellent chances to spot predators and large herds. With fewer crowds than northern parks, Mikumi promises peaceful, uncrowded safaris with spectacular views, birdwatching opportunities, and rich cultural connections.
